On November 28th, the third meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) with representatives from the sector for the development of a strategic plan for sweet fruit took place. Following this meeting, the Ministry will prepare a proposal that will be analyzed by the representatives of the sector and that will give way to the third and final phase of the plan.
This meeting is preceded by two previous meetings, where the state of the stone fruit sub-sector (October 27th) and seed fruit (November 7th) were specifically analyzed.
In this last meeting, chaired by the general director of Agricultural Production and Markets MAPAMA, the measures that will be part of the plan, both in relation to the stone fruit and seed were discussed. Representatives from production, industry, distribution, Central and Autonomous Administration, as well as experts and researchers participated.
Among the aspects that were discussed are the proposal to adopt short-term measures and immediate implementation to face the next season, as well as medium and long-term measures. There was also talk about the possibilities of making the most of the opportunities and tools offered by the Common Agricultural Policy to this sector. Whether through financing from the Operational Programs of the Fruit and Vegetable Producers’ Organizations, which for the sector as a whole supposes a financing of more than 200 million euros per year, or taking advantage of the tools offered to the POs and its associations to carry out actions in terms of supply / demand, quality or promotion.
