Origin: Developed by Planasa. Registered in Spanish commercial varieties official list number 188.002 (16-01-86). Semi late variety. Very closed tips. Very thick calibres. Recommended for white and green.  

Genetic characteristics: Hybrid of clones. Ciprés are very homogeneous plants; vigorous and rustics with high productivity and commercial criteria. Because of its rusticity, it adapts very well to soils suitable for asparagus. 

Plant: Plants are very vigorous and high, very easily adapted to many kinds of soils and climates.Because of its high and open vegetation it is less sensitive to sicknesses (especially those caused by fungus). Ciprés is not affected by wind damage. Very suitable for white and green asparagus. 

The asparagus: The spears have excellent commercial presentation, good taste quality and low presence of fibres. Good taste, with tender epidermis and flesh. Very large spear diameter with closed tips. 

Profitability: Production potential of 18000 plants/ha will have high to very high yields. Its individual spear size and overall yield make its harvest less expensive. High percentage of top quality spears with thick calibres. More than 95% of production is for sizes bigger than 12 mm and more than 80% are bigger than 16 mm.* 

Technical advice: For white asparagus, it is usually advice to plant no more than 20.000 crowns per hectare. Ciprés allows being cultivated under black plastic. The beds do not need to be done too early since this variety does not come too soon in time. Bed height should be medium.
