Variety: Sabrosa*.

Origin: Crossing Sel Nº 92-38 X 86-032. Selected in the experimental field of Planasa in Cartaya (Huelva), Spain. Bred and registered by Planasa. EU 13795 (19-7-04)

Plant: Vigorous, erect and compact with green leaves not very dense in its crown. Good root system resistant to many soil pathogens.

Flowers: levelled with foliage or slightly above it depending on culture cycle. The variety keeps unique peduncles in first flowering. Very high quality of pollen.

Fruit: Fruits are very attractive, of conical shape and bright red colour presenting a good apical pollination. It has very little predisposition to chilling deformation or poor fecundation. It maintains good size throughout harvest without significant size variations. The fruit possesses good skin elasticity even after chilling with dense pulp that allows long conservation periods. Achenes are small and placed levelled with surface. Pulp is red, firm and aromatic with high sugar levels. Taste and flavour are intense with good balance of sugar and acidity.

Harvesting: Slightly later than Tudla®. As the latter, it shows its better productive characteristics when planted from October 3rd to 25th. Easy to harvest as fruit is well exposed beyond plant foliage due to its long peduncles on a plant with erected architecture.

Agronomic characteristics: Sabrosa* is a vigorous variety. The distance between plants must be between 22 and 25 cm for fresh plants. It has good root system which regenerates easily and is well adapted to different type of soils and disinfections as well as to organic cultures. It is important for this variety not to establish and excessive foliage mass that could impede ventilation of the canopy and make harvesting difficult. It is a variety that shows good resistance to Botrytis and especially to Oidium and Phytopthora.

Agronomic advice

Allows early transplant without fruit deformation problems
During plantation, give it a strong fertirrigation to increase number of crowns
One the plant is established fertirrigation must decrease to have equilibrium between fruit and leave production
CE as low as possible (lower than 0,5-1 μS/cm)
In this variety it is important to keep foliar mass small to avoid difficulties for lack of ventilation and during harvest

PLANASA develops all varieties with no use of genetic modification techniques.
