Variety: Cristal*.

Origin: Crossing Sel Nº 92-61 X Sel. Nº 90-45 (Cegnida Rem). Selected in the experimental field of Planasa in Cartaya (Huelva), Spain. Bred and registered by Planasa - Inotalis. EU 2007/1257 (06-06-2007)

Plants: high day neutral characteristics. Cristal is a vigorous plant with large leaves and bright dark green colour. Globose habit and semi erect flowering over the foliar mass, with abundant flowering during the productive cycle, especially in March - April when planted as frigo during the summer.

Flowers: medium to big sized fruit; anthers are well developed and with a lot of pollen. The flower bunches are long and don’t branch too much, which allows acceptable calibre homogeneity and fruit exposure.

Fruit: fruit size is medium to big and conical-long shaped similar to similar a Milsei-Tudla, with red pulp consistent and slightly acid.
Skin is dark red bright colour with good resistance to picking and handling.

Harvesting: using frigo plants in summer plantations (or motta at the end of the summer) production is good in October-December and very good during the flowering of of April - May.

Agronomic characteristics: Cristal is a highly day neutral variety, vigorous and very potentially productive. Therefore the plantation distances should no be closer than 35 cm for soils plantations. Otherwise the development of the plant in October could cause harvesting problems and botrytis due to lack of ventilation. In hydroponic and out of soil systems this distance of plantation can be reduced considering different substrates and culture systems.
Tip and flower harvesting should be accomplished at the end of August to allow fruit harvesting in August or during the first fortnight of September to harvest fruit later.
Generally earlier prunes will produce more flowering (even hiperflowering) since there is a bigger crown differentiation. This fact implies smaller calibres.
Later prunes will turn the plant more vigorous with crowns that are more organized in a hierarchy; therefore, more calibre but less production.
It is advised to use multi tunnels or, even better, out of soil culture, since during harvesting dates there is high humidity and rain. That way the second class fruit percentage will be lower.

Why to choose Cristal?

-  It’s the variety with the best quality in autumn fruit.
- Very productive (300 g in autumn arriving till 1 kg in spring)
- Good and homogeneous colour
- It’s the earlier variety.
- No burning calyx

INOTALIS develops all varieties with no use of genetic modification techniques.
