Variety: Darselect Bright (DA44)

Origin: Crossing of varieties 98.16.110 x 97.17.06. Bred and selected in the experimental field of Darbonne in Le Barp en Gironde, France. Bred by natural breeding and registered by N°EU 1181 (02/06/2008)

Plant: Balanced, erect habit with high rooting capacity. Slightly less vigorous than Darselect, but with stronger foliar density. Leaves are dark green and blistered.

Flowers: good pollen quality. Flowers are over the foliage level. Flower peduncles are as long as in Darselect.

Fruit: Calibre slightly smaller than Darselect; conical to cordiform shape. Very good polinitation and therefore very good formation of fruits. Average density of achenes leveled with surface. Firm epidermis, brick red to vivid red, uniform and very shinny. Pulp is dark orange to brick red, firm and juicy, with good acid-sugar equilibrium and very good aroma. During conservation, fruit remains very attractive due to its shine, and colour tends to darken. Calibre on the 2 to 3 last harvest tends to decrease.

Harvesting:  mid season variety, with similar earliness than Darselect, but with lower total yield. Production stays very constant thorough time. Harvesting is very fast, similar to Darselect. The fruit maintains its good characteristics for a long time on the plant, which allows easy harvesting management. Its high commercial yield and its harvesting speed give it a high commercial profitability.

Agronomical characteristics: Darselect Bright is a mid season variety, mid vigour, with low chill needs ~750 hours. The variety is less sensitive to oïdium than Darselect. Due to its susceptibility of being attacked by anthracnosys the land needs to be chosen and prepared correctly before plantation.

Why choose Darselect bright?

- Excelent fruit colour and flavour
- Variety without any problems due to low chilling hours

- Very good for early production under tunnel

- Very high percentage of first quality fruit, almost completely without seconds.

Agronomic advice
