Leading retailers and marketers from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have visited  Planasa’s Research and Development (R&D) centre in Huelva, highlighting the growing interest in Planasa’s varieties in various European markets.

Representatives from companies such as Tesco, Marks & Spencer, ASDA. Chambers and Waitrose, together with Bakker and Berrie’s Pride from the Netherlands, had the opportunity to check out first-hand the work that Planasa’s R&D team has been carrying out for years in the genetic improvement of products such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, which we call Planasa Genetics.

During these visits, commercial varieties that are becoming increasingly popular in the different target markets were highlighted. This is the case of strawberry RedSayra and Red Samantha. The former was praised for the precocity and firmness it has shown to date, as well as its outstanding flavour. On the other hand, they emphasised the high calibre and excellent flavour of Red Samantha.

The feedback on the blueberry selections was also very positive, highlighting the size, texture, and bloom of Blue Maldiva, as well as the flavour of Blue Madeira and Blue Manila, among other positive comments regarding the company’s varietal catalogue.

The impressions about the raspberry variety Pink Hudson were also very positive. This variety stands for its flavour, shelf life, bright colour, and versatility, as it can be planted for winter production or for double cropping. The Black Sultana blackberry also attracted attention, thanks to the remarkable quality of the fruit throughout its production cycle.

In addition, retailers were very interested in the advanced selections that are being developed in the different breeding programmes. These visits underline the enormous international acceptance of Planasa’s genetics, and evidence the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and the satisfaction of growers, retailers, and consumers.
