UK supermarket chain Morrisons representative Maria Pereira has visited Planasa’s R&D facilities in Huelva (Spain) to check out the new blueberry varieties that will be launched next autumn (October 2019).
After seeing the programme and tasting the six blueberry varieties, techincal manager at source Maria Pereira was amazed by the shelf life and crunchiness of the blueberries and also by the flavour of some of them: “When it comes to blueberries, at Morrisons we look for flavour, shelf life and crunchiness, but for a premium category flavour prevails above all, so that consumers keep on purchasing”, she stated.
She also highlighted the bloom and calibre of various varieties: “apart from flavour for a Morrisons premium category there are requirements like appearance, calibre or bloom, but as I said flavour is essential. I think that some of these varieties could meet the standards”.
Maria also visited the R&D raspberry programme to see the new commercial varieties coming after Adelita and Lupita, and she was surprised by the great plasticity and ultra-precocity of one of them.
Headquartered in Bradford (England), Morrisons is the fourth largest chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom, with almost 500 stores and an online home delivery service.
